I am known on FanFiction.Net and elsewhere as The1Russter. I'm dissatisfied with my experience on FFN. Three years ago when I joined, I really liked it, but no more. Other than its ease of posting stories, which no other site I've tried does as well, FFN is lacking in more user controls. Controls I think should be mandatory. I want control of all reviews, not just unsigned. If a reviewer turns out to be a troll, I want to not only report them, but to also delete what they have said regardless if their review is signed or unsigned.
Now I don't write stories of an MA rating. I try to avoid anything explicit regarding sex or violence, but there are times in some stories where you tread into or along the edge of said territory. It would be nice to share a story I worked hard at without fear of it being removed because of one or two scenes in a story happens to stray into or close to MA. FFN doesn't clarify what content is M or MA. It just gives an arbitrary definition which is open to interpretation. What is MA for one person might not even register an M with another or vice-verse. So much of that depends on culture and how a person was raised.
So I'm looking for an alternative site. This is the second I've tried, having tried Imagine Fan Fiction a couple of years ago. I don't like the fact that when you delete a story it still resides on their website waiting for you to reinstate it. My thought is this, once a story is deleted, it should be deleted. I've got in on my computer and can upload it again any time I wish.
Truth is, I hate the method this site has for uploading a story. It is archaic and open to too many errors on the part of the user. I don't want to waste any time learning even the basics of html for coding the chapters to my stories. I use bold, italics, underlining and centering, and I use page breaks. I structure my stories like published works. And the idea of converting them for this site is daunting. All I want to do is upload, do some minor editing and post it as a new story or add it as a new chapter to an existing story with as little fuss as possible. That is the one feature FFN excels at and should be the model for all other fanfic sites.
I'm going to try to post stories here, but I can't give any measure as to whether the experience will adhere me to this site or abandon it ahead of the attempt. Just reading the process warns me not to even to try it. Like I said, the method on this site is archaic.
I'll try a few one-shots I've written to start off with and see how it goes from there.
While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error. The AFF system includes a rigorous and complex abuse control system in order to prevent improper use of the AFF service, and we hope that its deployment indicates a good-faith effort to eliminate any illegal material on the site in a fair and unbiased manner. This abuse control system is run in accordance with the strict guidelines specified above.
