This is, of course, going to be copied and pasted from somewhere.
Lots of fanficcers have different bios on every single page that they own, but I'm not sure if I want this to be too different. Perhaps I'll paraphrase it instead. My "standard" biography is very fandomized, so it's appropriate-yet-not-appropriate for this situation.
There are three important things to know about me as an author. If you're one of those tl;dr types, read through the three things below and be on your way ^_^
The first thing you should know that I've been writing fanfiction since late 2003/early 2004. It's getting close to being a decade since I started writing, so I suppose I should feel old. But I don't really. I'm quite young, at least in my own opinion.
The second is that my current name is Ziven (pronounced "seven"). Doesn't my blog name make more sense now? "straightzivens" is a name that I frequently use online, mainly because "ziven" by itself is almost never available as a unique username.
The third would be to let you all know that my very first penname was darkdragonwriter, and I've had that name up until about 2010. It's very unlikely you've read my work if you're visiting the blog on this site, but I thought I would throw that in there just in case.
Why would I say that? My prominent fandom is Yu-Gi-Oh!, the anime about the spiky-haired guys playing the children's card game. Yes, I like it. A lot. I fell in love with YGO when it first started in Shonen Jump (Americanized version) and watched the series when it began to air soon after. Curiosity got the better of me and I looked up the anime in Japanese, and between the mix of these three my warped sense of fanon for this series began to construct itself. It's been hardcore YGO ever since.
I write a few other things as well, mostly anime although sometimes I dip into video game fandoms. Contrary to popular belief, I watch and read a lot of things - shows, anime, film, short stories and novel series. I've read near a small library of manga (FAKE and anything by CLAMP among my favorites). Most of the series that I find myself writing about are things that I've watched/was exposed to during the years of 2003-2007, and for good reason - those were my high school years, when I first began my foray into fanfiction. So I've seen and read a lot of "old" things, and some new.
Why is my favorite fandom Yu-Gi-Oh!? There are a number of reasons, but I think that a question like that would be best answered in a blog piece. As a short answer, I would say it's for lack of good anime to keep me interested and entertained.
I'm not a fan of many of the things that have come out recently, as I feel that after the Naruto paradigm many mangaka and animators are going for concepts that will gain the most popularity as opposed to what's good. I watch things based on recommendation more often than not these days, and even then it has to be from the right people. That does not exclude fans of mine - I'm willing to try nearly anything once.
Recently I've become interested in the world of comics (American, specifically), and trying to (but failing) to expand the horizons of the fanfiction I write. YGO is GREAT - really great! - but I am looking for other things, as I realize that it's static to not every change to anything different than what I am already familiar with.
Other fandoms I write for include Tales of Symphonia (game), Harry Potter (novel series), Ouran Host Club (anime), with plans for Hunger Games (short story series) fanfiction. I've done a few other fandoms but aren't into them too heavily.
I mostly write romance and sexual fanfiction. I know, I know, lots of gasps. There are a lot of theories flying around on why people decide to do that - lack of a life, lack of experience, etc. I have to say that while those things are true in some aspects about writers, they're certainly not true when it comes to me, and I'm confident that it isn't the case when it comes to the majority.
I write about romance and sex because I enjoy romance and sex.
I'm sure that there's some sort of underlying psychological reasoning behind it, probably because I felt alone as a child and loved imagining what it would be like to be intimate enough with another person to fall for them. It's the best that I can come up with, and the one that makes the most sense - at least to me, anyway.
But that's purely subconscious. Actively, so far as I know, I've always loved the idea of falling and love and I'm very interested in sex not only as a vehicle for love but to express other things as well.
I'm also a pervert. While I try to actually add emotional depth to even my most graphic pieces, sometimes I just want to write porn, because I can and I'm decent at it.
So, there I am, all laid out there for you guys to see. I hope it was interesting enough.
