I wrote this story about 5 years ago and I don't write any HP fiction anymore. This was written as a sort of way of dealing with abuses I'd suffered as a child, and working out the redemption of the Draco character through his experience with his terrifying family. I'm very into the redemptive story theme and wanted to find a reason for Draco to act like he does and why he is so hateful and angry. I may have taken the "obvious" route with his being abused, but it was a topic I could get into psychologically and try to explain his layers through. I wish JK had given more information about the Malfoy family and their dynamic. Maybe I'm way off and other writers have a far better grasp of the Malfoy characters, but Lucius just comes over as such a disgusting, smarmy man who is totally corrupt, I could see how he would do the things he does in this story. I played into that and probably made him far, far worse than he needed to be, but in the end Draco will of course be redeemed and set free from all his pain and tyranny, and Hermione will help him find the way. Yes, it's cliched, but as someone said, everything has already been done.
